Friend Group Server
Casual, low-structure. One general channel, voice for hangouts, a media dump, and a #plans channel.
Friend group servers fail by trying to look like community servers. A 12-person group does not need 14 topic channels, a verification gate, or a three-tier mod hierarchy. What it needs is one place to type, one place to dump photos, one place to coordinate plans, and a voice room for movie nights. This template strips everything else out. Two roles, six channels, no bots required (though Birthday and Movie Night bots are nice-to-haves).

When to use this template
Use this template if your server is private and the member count is in the single or low double digits. The moment your group starts inviting people who don't already know each other, graduate to the Community template — the friction-free design that works for friends actively works against strangers. If your friends mostly play games together, the Gaming template gives you LFG channels without much extra structure.
Common mistakes when setting this up
The mistake is over-structuring. People hear "Discord server" and think they need announcements, rules, role-react menus, the whole apparatus. They don't. The other mistake: leaving the server muted for non-friends to join. If you ever post the invite anywhere public, you'll wake up to a raid. Keep it Members can invite only, and rotate the invite link if it leaks. Also: don't make a #birthdays channel without a Birthday Bot — it'll go quiet within a month and start feeling sad.
